DISCLOSURE: We were provided with a 2016 Mazda CX-5 to test drive and write about our experience. No compensation was received. All opinions are our own.
We hadn’t seen them in 7 years. Before their second child was born. Before either one of our girls was born.
So when they told us they would be in Orlando visiting family a few weeks ago, we immediately made plans to get together. It included a day at the beach on Saturday and a trip to Magic Kingdom on Sunday.
We thought this road trip would be the perfect time to test drive the new 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD.
The sparkling Titanium Flash Mica color shined on the outside while the beautiful Parchment leather interior gave the vehicle a sporty and stylish feel.
The LATCH child safety seat anchors made securing the girls’ car seats a breeze. With plenty of cargo space in the trunk, we packed up our suitcases, beach bag and double stroller and we were off.
Unfortunately, it was raining the morning of our trip. That combined with our friends feeling worn out from several days in a row at Disney World, we decided it best to stay in Orlando instead of venturing to the beach. We would’ve liked to get pictures of this beauty with the ocean in the background. Another time.
The three hour drive was very smooth. The car handled like a pro on the road. I loved the cruise control feature that allowed you to set your following distance behind the other vehicle and adjusted for the speed of traffic. The safety features were amazing. Not only do you have a visual warning when a car is in your blindspot, but the car alerts you with an audio warning. It’ll also inform you with a beeping sound when you’re approaching the passing lanes or on top of the lines.
What’s even more impressive is the fuel economy. The 2016 Mazda CX-5 AWD gets 30 mpg on the highway and 24 in the city for a combined 26 mpg for city and highway driving.
The entertainment console of the car was so much fun. I liked controlling what looked like a joystick to select between music, navigation and the other features. Since we don’t have satellite radio, Newsy Dad was obsessed with the sports stations that were broadcasting college football on Saturday for the drive up and the NFL on Sunday for the drive back home.
For those chillier mornings in Orlando (wish we had that cooler weather in South Florida), I took advantage of the heated seats. It feels like someone’s giving me a warm hug. Love this feature and don’t get to use it very often where we live.
Now that you know my favorite features in the 2016 Mazda CX-5. Here are my husband’s top 3:
1. The driver's seat was very comfortable and everything I could possibly need was at my fingertips. Although, I wish it had more cup holders and at least one more cigarette lighter to plug in our portable DVD players. It only had one so we made it work.
2. Driving the car was very nice. The ride was smooth, much smoother than my older model Mazda 6.
3. I really liked the shade feature for the cargo area because it attaches to the rear door. When the hatch was open, the screen went up with it. After you finished loading or unloading, the screen went back in place, hiding your belongings from view. It’s much easier than having to remember to pull the cargo cover closed every single time.
What do you think about the 2016 Mazda CX-5? Have you ever owned a Mazda?
