When we think of people helping to make our community a healthier place to live, doctors, nurses, EMTs, pharmacists - those in the medical field - usually come to mind. But what about your child's basketball coach, your neighbor who takes extra special care of a sick loved one, your friend who delivers meals to the homebound and elderly? These people - though not in the healthcare industry - are all healthcare heroes.
Take for example, my friend, Frank Batista. He's a busy guy. In addition to being a loving husband and devoted father of three children, he's a successful realtor who likes to get involved in lots of projects with his kids and in the community. Because he's basically at the beck and call of his clients, Frank makes sure he schedules in time with his children. That's why he volunteers to coach his son's baseball team. They went undefeated this season.
Frank is a true inspiration to children about how to balance working hard with playing hard and most importantly, how to live a healthy life. And, he's not the only healthcare hero among us.
All across the country, caring people are quietly doing amazing things for the health of their communities. To recognize them and say thank you, our independent Health Mart pharmacists in South Florida are awarding $50,000 in grants to community health non-profits to recognize them for improving health and well-being in their communities.
It's called the Health Mart Champions of Care Challenge and it will shine a bright light on those unsung local heroes whose everyday actions have built healthier families, workplaces, neighborhoods and communities.
To enter the challenge, all you have to do is go here and tell Health Mart your story about the good deed you or someone you know has done. If you win, you will select the non-profit of your choice to receive thousands of dollars to continue the important work they're doing for the health of our community.
The prizes include:
- A $30,000 grant chosen by the grand prize winner
- A $3,000 grant chosen by the 2nd place winner
- A $2,000 grant chosen by the 3rd place winner
- $1,000 grants chosen by each of 15 finalists
Here’s How It Works:
Starting on March 17, the public will have two weeks to vote for their favorite Champions of Care at www.healthmartcommunity.com.
