It's one of my favorite pictures. You can just see the emotion. The love. The laughter. The joy. It's what being a Mom is all about.
Sure, there are days I cry. Days I drink too much wine. Days I scream my head off just hoping they would put their listening ears on. But this is what makes it all worth it.
From the minute we held them in our arms and cuddled them as we nursed in the wee early morning hours to watching them take their first steps. From the endless diaper duty days to the first time they used the potty. Cheers and high fives all around! You know what I'm talking about.
From holding their hair back as they fight the stomach bug to catching them as they learn to swing on the monkey bars. From crying uncontrollably in the car when you drop them off at daycare on your first day back to work to still more crying watching them independently walk into their kindergarten classroom. From teaching how to be courageous and strong to compassionate and kind, lessons we've learned from each other. It's been a beautiful journey so far.
What I've also learned in my nearly six years as a mother is you need to take time for yourself. Take care of yourself. Only then can you take better care of your family. This is definitely still a work in progress since I want to do and sacrifice everything for my kids. But in doing so, I forget about myself.
However, I did learn some lessons quicker than others.
When other moms told me, nap when she naps. I did. Sure, there were piles of laundry and cleaning that needed to be done. But they're only this little for a short time. And I WAS TIRED!
When they told me to treasure every moment because it goes by so fast. I'm trying. Yes, the days are long. But the years are short. I mean I can't believe Monkey will be 6 this month and Lil Tank will be 4! How have I been responsible for two little people for nearly 6 years?
Oh yes, because I've been working on taking care of me, too. Which brings me to these great Mother's Day gifts!
If you've read my Pure Barre review, you know how obsessed I am with this fitness program. It's amazing. You can try it out for free at this specific location only - Pure Barre Fort Lauderdale studio in Union Planters Plaza - on Mother's Day. Nothing like a little mommy workout to make you feel good.
Speaking of fun fitness activities, why not take Mom ice skating? As a former competitive figure skater and coach, my girls and I enjoy going to the rink. They even have their own ice skates. Newsy Dad doesn't skate, so it's a Mommy & Mini Me activity like when we skated on the Frozen rink at Disney's Hollywood Studios last summer. This Mother's Day, moms can skate for free at Palm Beach Ice Works. Go here to RSVP.
Once you've burned those calories, you're probably hungry, I know I am.
I love dessert and Misha's cupcakes ranks right up there for satisfying my sweet tooth. Misha's has cooked up a delectable line of baked goods for Mother's Day including a cupcake bouquet, a gift box with four full-sized cupcakes decorated with sugar roses, 12 mini floral cupcakes, and a beautiful cake decorated with roses.
For Mother's Day, we've teamed up with Misha's to give away a cupcake flower pot valued at $25. And, if you want to receive a free mini cupcake, just download the new Misha's Cupcakes App which is free in the Apple App Store and Android's Google Play Store.
These six years of being a mom has lead me on a roller coaster ride of emotions, from the highest highs to the lowest lows. I know I'll experience more throughout the years and there's nothing else I want more than that. I love being a mom.
