Rockettes high-kicking their way into West Palm Beach

Every tiny dancer dreams of becoming a Rockette. That included me. I started ballet and tap lessons when I was five years old. Added in jazz classes along the way. Even danced on my college dance team. But my dreams of becoming a Rockette faded into the moonlight when I found out about the height requirement.

It was August 2010 in Kansas when the Rockettes brought their Radio City Christmas Spectacular show to the state's largest city. I was working at the NBC affiliate at the time and had the opportunity to interview them about their first visit to the city. Naturally, one of my questions was "How tall do you have to be to be a Rockette?" The answer? Pretty precise, much like their dance moves - 5'6" to 5'10.5". Standing at just under 5 feet tall, with no growth spurt in the foreseeable future... or EVER, I decided the closest I would get to joining the legendary troupe was to kick with them. So I did. I promise if I wasn't wearing a dress, my kicks would be just as high as theirs. PROMISE.

Kicking with the Rockettes when they stopped in Kansas on their Radio City Christmas Spectacular tour

So imagine how ecstatic I was to be invited to dance with them AGAIN! It's all thanks to a company that makes all natural applesauce in a pouch. Why?

GoGo squeeZ recently conducted a national playfulness survey and found that nearly 3 out of 4 (74%) parents with kids 4 to 12 have problems including playfulness into their daily life. The company wanted to change that. Enter a Kick Class with the Rockettes.

GoGo squeeZ invited me along with several other bloggers to this exclusive opportunity with one of the world-famous dancers. I could only bring one guest, and since Monkey fit into the age range of 4 to 12, I decided to take her. Plus, she had seen the Rockettes twice already - once at Radio City Music Hall and another in Kansas.

I'll share our experience next week (here). But if you'd like to see the Rockettes while they're in West Palm Beach, we have a special treat for you. GoGo squeeZ is giving Newsy Parents readers a discount for 4 tickets for the price of 3 (or 25% off of up to 4 tickets). Use the promo code GOGO. *Offer is valid on select tickets to select performances.

Here's the tour date schedule:

  • West Palm (11/29 – 12/8)
  • Tampa (12/12 – 12/29)
  • New York (11/1 – 12/31)
  • Nashville (11/16 – 12/24)

Disclosure: I was provided tickets to see the Rockettes and attend a Kick Class in exchange for sharing my experience. All opinions are my own.
